Who We Are
We're a non-partisan group of Canadians who think formal electoral equality isn't cutting it. Activists, academics, community organizers, regular people. We see the gap between what democracy promises and what it actually delivers.
What We Want
We want equity-weighted voting: adjust the ballot to compensate for the advantages some Canadians get through lobbying, wealth, media, and connections. Every Canadian's political voice should carry genuinely equal weight. Right now it doesn't.
Why Now
Trust in democratic institutions is dropping. Turnout is falling, especially in the communities that are most shut out. The gap between formal equality and real equality gets wider every election. Incremental reform isn't going to cut it anymore.
Not a Party
EquityVote is not affiliated with any political party. We take inspiration from progressive movements across the Canadian spectrum, but we're an independent advocacy organization. Our loyalty is to the principle, not to any party's election strategy.
